There will be one weekly evening walk every Monday during the summer from Pembroke Lodge.  The walk will be for one hour starting at 18:30 hrs.  Walks will not take place on the following Public holidays and other dates – 6 and 27 May, 29 July, 26 August and 2 September.

Special Mid-Summers Evening Walk – Wednesday 19 June

On Wednesday 19 June, we will attempt a complete circumnavigation of Richmond Park using the Tamsin Trail starting from Pembroke Lodge.  Two shorter routes will also be available: one of 5.75 miles and one of 4 miles (maps will be provided and are already published on website (News page) and Facebook page).   This is a free walk to all goBuzz Nordic Walkers.  Book online, by text or in person.

Meet at 18:15 hrs for an 18:30 departure.  We will walk anti-clockwise towards Ham Cross.  At Ham Cross the groups doing the 2 shorter routes will turn onto the path along the side of the road that leads to the Grill Station at Pen Ponds car park.  All groups will rendezvous back at Pembroke Lodge where you will be given your finish time.  After the walk, we will retire to The New Inn, Ham.

*Grading System

The grade (number after title of walk) equates to the maximum speed (mph) that we would achieve during that walk.  It is also the minimum speed that someone joining that walk should be able to maintain for the duration of that walk.  It doesn’t mean to say that we will be walking constantly at that speed.  But we will endeavour to get to that speed as conditions permit.

Next Learn to Nordic Walk Course

Before joining a Nordic Walking group you will need to learn the correct technique.  This can be done in one of 2 ways: 1-2-1 tuition or a formal course:

The formal course consists of 4 x one hour lessons spread over 4 weeks, gradually building up the technique and use of the poles.  There is a course starting on Friday 7 June at 11:00 hrs and a second course starting on Saturday 8 June at 12:30 hrs.  Both from Kingston Gate car park.

If you can’t attend one particular Friday then you can attend on the Saturday course (and vice versa) which is running in parallel.  I provide the poles or you can use your own.  You just need to wear suitable clothing and footwear for the conditions; trainers are OK if it’s dry but I recommend lightweight, waterproof walking boots for all conditions and seasons.  The cost of the course is only £48.  Minimum fitness requirement of being able to walk 2 miles comfortably within one hour.

To book go to the ‘Walks and Classes’ tab, scroll down to the relevant course and follow the booking procedure.

1-2-1 (or 1-2-2) tuition is carried out at a mutually convenient date and time.

Not sure if Nordic Walking is for you? Taster Walk

The next taster walk will be on Tuesday 21 May at 11:15 hrs.  It will be for 45 minutes (but possibly up to one hour) and will start from Roehampton Gate car park.  The cost is only £5.

I provide the poles or you can use your own.  You just need to wear suitable clothing and footwear for the conditions; trainers are OK if it’s dry but I recommend lightweight, waterproof walking boots for all conditions and seasons.

To book go to the ‘Walks and Classes’ ‘ tab, scroll down to the relevant ‘Taster Walk’ and book on.  Or contact me direct with your intention to attend.

If you can’t make one of these taster walks you could attend lesson one of my next Learn to Nordic walk course at a cost of £12 without commitment (to attend the rest of the course).

Mark founded goBuzz Nordic Walking and Personal Training in order to share his love of walking. As well as being a Nordic Walking instructor Mark is also a fully qualified Personal Trainer and Mountain Leader. He has been lucky enough to lead groups trekking in the Himalayas, the Alps, Mount Kenya and all the major National Parks in the UK. However, don’t be afraid, the classes are set at a pace commensurate with the fitness levels of those taking part and designed to help you achieve your own personal fitness goals.

Nordic Walking offers huge benefits for people who have reduced fitness due to injury, illness, lack of exercise or confidence; another reason why Mark decided to become an instructor. There is no greater pleasure for a fitness instructor than seeing clients improve and get much more out of each and every day. Nordic Walking can be modified for any level of fitness and ability. If you want to improve your posture, breathing, stamina, mobility, flexibility and tone your muscles then join me in Richmond Park. Plus, the social aspect of Nordic Walking is a key part of its success. Nordic Walking is a fabulous and enjoyable way to exercise.
